one last cliche blog post

i'm sure most of you are aware that spank rock is currently teaming up with benny blanco for his new (and from the looks of it, is being funded by trojan condom's ad dollars...) bangers & cash ep coming out early october. i'm not posting today to talk about an ep everyone already knows about and has all the leaked tracks for already, but to shine light on an amazing mixtape by the guys working the magic on spank rock's beats, ronnie darko and chris devlin called fabricdead 33.3 spoofing the popular fabriclive mixtape they had released a few monthes back. it dropped on fully fitted about a month ago in limited 1000 copy release; pick it up now because supplies are almost gone. here are a couple sample tracks.

p.s.
to all my friends from bikeguide; this is old-old fucking news but i never read this thread until the other day. if you've got an hour to kill and want to laugh your ass off, read the first 20 pages or so of this thread.

p.p.s.
this might be my last post on this blog. things are up in the air about where i'm going for my next shitty/half-ass'd internet production. keep an eye out, guaranteed to please.

back on oinks

while on a search to find tickets to a midnight showing of superbad for midnight last night, i came across a short film micheal cera of arrested development plays another awkward teenager picking up his date to the dance. darling darling is available to $2 on itunes. i registered my forth oinks account the other day. it feels pretty good to be back, i've already racked up half a gig downloaded. here's a few good tracks that has made music fun for me again.

some great videos

i've been a pretty big fan of la blogotheque's take away shows ever since their arcade fire episode (i've posted it before, go find it.) here are a couple of my favorite ones out of the collection.

architecture in helsinki feat. a small crowd of their fans performing heart it races. they make pretty solid conga line and march through downtown paris too.

the national performing ada in the perpignan mountains. the girls dancing are a little much, i mean i'm sure their merch girl is hot, but that doesn't mean i want to watch her dance with one of those annoyingly big scarves for five and half minutes.

of montreal with axe riverboy stumbling the alleys behind their show slurring the words to the zombies' care of cell 44, possibly the most covered song in the world, but i still love it every time. then into another very well covered song, bowie's starman.

one of the best ones, in my humble opinion. grizzly bear's bathtub version of shift. they also do a acapella version of the knife that's worth checking out.

kočani orkestar with help from zach condon performing siki, siki baba. if the song sounds familiar it might be because it was featured on the borat soundtrack.

if we need any more reasons to love Kanye

SO as you know, we here at SITBR love the work of the Young Jeezy himself, KANYE WEST. And I am not also sure how many days this has been out, but man did I love this. So feast your eyes on this amazing mash-up made by the master himself. Its Kanye West over, none other then, DAFT PUNK (p.s. if you went to the show last weekend, screw you). Its called "Stronger"

cheers. the official link is HERE

or you can watch it right now here:

p.s. sorry for the lack of posts. We've been hard at work on remodeling our shit.

It has been awhile...but i have returned

Hey guys,
So I know its been awhile since you last heard from me, and right before I departed I told you a lot was going on...and oh, a lot has..
So I am going to give you the T.V. Guide version of what has happened:
Airing Time: Tonight, @ 11pm
Channel: Sex In the Break Room
Synopsis: It is about this guy named Austin who goes to Portland, and has a kick as time riding his bike around this awesome town, while also drinking, drinking in cine-pubs, and also drinking in arcades, while eating a lot of good Portland food and absorbing the kick-ass Portland culture. The second half of the show is about him moving into his new house (the beehive) and discovering he loves hanging out on his porch with rebecca and his other friends. And then he...

So pretty much, I've been busy, and having a lot of fun. But don't think i forgot about you (the millions of readers we have here @ SITBR).

So, it may not be as fresh, but I think it is, and I like these gals a lot.

The new video for Au Revoir Simone's song "Sad Song" - and I do like this video too!

p.s.
we're working on a new layout, maybe we will come up with a few and let you vote or something, but either way it will be better then Pocket Full Of Horses (LRMD)

couple of summer songs

leaving for portland on monday. not too sure if austin survived his trip, i think he got back on the fifth, but i haven't seen or heard from him yet. just heard from the break room's portland representative that there's going to be a block party while we're there and yacht, copy and bobby birdman are going to be playing. so expect to hear about that in the near future.

gellers out of tokyo have recently dropped their first album, this is the first (and my favorite) track off the album.
gellers - 9 teeth picabia

beirut founder zach condon just release a new song on a free cd given out with believer magazine, looks like a pretty decent comp.
zach condon - venice

i've been listening to the new japanther album a lot recently (not as much now, strawberry jam has been get'n most of the spins). i was a big fan of there old album and the new one; skuffed up my huffy really delivers.
japanther - seventy nine

latest obsession

on the internet today, flash-based video hosting sites are a dime a dozen. youtube has been getting a little tired and a little too over-populated recently. vimeo on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air; good selection of subscribable content, privacy controls on videos you post and i love the player's ui. check it.

i wanna post about an awesome remix of the cool kids' gold and a pager, but streamload is still down. what the hell! this will have to do...

HOLY HEART STOPPER (REMIXXX)

That's right, hot damn, we did it. For those of you who know me, you are aware for the past year+ I have been fighting to get Heavy Weights played as a midnight movie. And for those of you who don't know me, now you know that. But this saturday I was ushering the fine film "Dazed and Confused" when Scott (my boss/ runs the midnight) announced the upcoming midnights...and guess what was on that list? HEAVY WEIGHTS!!!
And to add icing to the cake, it is being played in September (when everyone is back for school) and Scott will be gone...SO I AM ANNOUNCING (as I do when he departs). SO YOU BETTER BE THERE - and don't forget your Perkis Power uniforms.

In other news, and related to the blog series Holy Heart Stopper, I (we) were recently almost sued for having their music up. I am unaware on the exact details. But apparently a representative of Kanine Records got in touch with Derek and told him we had to take the songs down, or see consequences (being sued). I just thought I would relay to you how cutty, we the writers, or SEX IN THE BREAK ROOM really are. And for what? You the reader? Damn right. Street-cred, right?

also...i crashed my bike the other night, while intoxicated yes...point of the story, when drunk and riding a bike...look out for jumping curbs.

so to the music portion. After the incident with Kanine Records I looked into what else they had. And I liked what I saw. This post is dedicated to the other artists of Kanine Records. (by the way, if you don't like what I post, check out the Kanine Records website for yourself and give it a look).

First Up: CHAIRLIFT
a music video for their song "At My Side"

Second: Is Mommy And Daddy. For some reason it reminded me of the Murder City Devils. At least wait for the middle of the song to hit, I liked it a lot. A music video for their song "Franconia Road"

ghosthustler vid. and other news!

ghosthustler's new video for parking lot nights. the song seems pretty good, but the powerglove... B+ at best (no offense caitlin.)

looks like sex in the breakroom is accidentally having two tours to portland this summer. i'll be there from the 9th to the 16th. i'm not bring my laptop with me (packing pretty light), but i promise a post or two from up there.

So much to tell...

...and I want to tell you in such a fashion that won't be boring.

Okay, where to begin? I moved (as you know) only to move again in two weeks. I helped a couple friends move as well. BUT good news, I am going to be in Portland, Oregon from July 1st - 5th!!! Sex In The Break Room is going on tour baby. So if you live in the P-town area holla.

But also, I've been busy with my totally sweet band Super Sect, I've played a couple shows, and at my last show we played with an amazing artist by the name of T.V. Coahran. I was blown away by his solo (kinda) show. He is pictured above, and while he is not the totally sweet guy in the Racer X costume, he is the skinny Charley Chaplin lookin' fella. So check out his tunes and look out for this guy.

open up for air

jacob cooper's bark bark bark; i'm not really sure where to start with this band. i first heard jacob's work when one of his side projects; OMGWTF played with sheena a long time ago; this was sheena's 2nd or 3rd show ever if i remember correctly (matt mcclain was still drumming for them at the time.) it was an awesome show, both bands had amazing sets. through the magic of myspace music profiles, i've watched this band change sounds and band members like crazy over the past few years, a few failed album attempts along the way (i think i even sent him $10 for one of them one time... didn't get shit.) jacob just dropped haunts which is technically the debut bbb album even though he's been making these songs for a few years now, it's unfortunate that this genre of music has since become a little too over crowded and maybe the idea of writing music about ghosts, the x-files and d&d is a little play'd out today. i wanted him to drop an album in '04; not '07. but with all that aside; i still really enjoy this band, no matter what.

more ice!

i'm think'n about changing the name of the blog, how does sex in the derek sucks at riding a bike; a blog type website sound? there's a red truck parked on water, like two blocks down from moreno's, that has an open pro-sized dent in the passenger side door. i look/feel like i've been in a fight.

kanye's new demographic?

my guess... middle class white college students who spend too much time on the internet. with the release of his can't tell me nothing mixtape just two weeks ago (which is being considered the first widely popular mix tape only to be released on the internet) all the internets that are worth visiting are a buzz. from sampling indie pop mega hits, a new take on a play'd out dance track to working with a-trak (playing fluid in sf on the 22nd); he's got a lot of peoples attention. the second single from the up coming graduation just hit the internets, he included a 'snippet' of it on the mix tape which includes one of the smaller k-rants on the tape, quoting him is too fun... "the more drops i do, the sooner the album gonna come. so, the more shit i talk, the sooner y'all get this shit." i've heard a-trak brought in dj mehdi to work on this track, which i think is hilarious, less than six monthes ago the k-man ripped the mic out of so-me's hands and openly admitted to not know who (mehdi's hugely popular label-mate) justice was after losing an award to them at the european mtv awards. he probably just got into them, i hear he reads brooklyn vegan.

arcade fire. greek theatre, berkelz ca

saw the great arcade fire last friday. quite a great show, fought off too many drunk chicks to to count and got right up front. it blows my mind what a wide variety of people are devout arcade fire fans that just screamed their hearts out singing along to every song (meet josh.) it was probably the best arcade fire preformance i've been to. the video above is an amazing live version of in the backseat from that night, which before last friday to me; hadn't been a real stand out track of theirs, but since it's all i've been listening to; it really blew me away. for the encore they played cold wind (written about a road trip to san francisco win, regine and will took for win and will's grandfather's funeral which also helped spur the title of their first album and the 4 neighborhood tracks and finished with wake up. i had never been a big fan of cold wind (originally released on a soundtrack for the show six feet under) but atmosphere and production of their live shows is so amazing, it's another track that really opened up to since last friday. will and richard went crazy as usual; every part of the stage (along with the infamous red helmet, now duck taped together in many places) were used as percussion instruments in the more dramatic parts of songs and will tromped through the audience banging on his drum all the way to the back of the bleachers.

arcade fire - cold wind

bonus:

this is a section of a documentary shot at the beginning of the tour supporting their neon bible. the elevator performance is amazing.

what a beautiful combo...

Hello,
On my previous blog (phantom polaroid) I posted much about the new Blonde Redhead album '23'. I loved it. But now, I found this, which made me even happier, being it is not just the awesomeness of Blonde Redhead, but also the gorgeous grace of allstar artist Miranda July. And those who know me, know I am a 'bit' of a fan of hers. So eat it up, and love both of them, B.R. and Miranda July even more...

...because I know I do.

or... you could just say 'i got the best.'

i've been getting into those new fangled internet 'comedians' (and just youtube subscriptions in general) quite a bit recently, natalie dee and husband drew (more commonly known for toothpaste for dinner) are great. he's got a couple of good ones too.

p.s.
bryn ain't get'n da debernardi. dayum!

p.p.s.
the offices of the sex in the breakroom would like to extend a late- yet still warm 'happy birthday bitch!' greeting to caitlin ova at less stock more pac err whatever.

p.p.p.s.
sorry austin.

Jealousy kills...but these fools save.

Reasons I am (kinda, maybe, not really) jealous:
1) Bryn is getting an amazing new fixed track bike, built from scratch. So sexy. Kinda want to beat him up and ride it. (not really, sorry Bryn)
2) Derek, my blog buddy, and Rachel (Ray-Ho) are going to see Arcade Fire at the Berkley Greek Theater...

...but then again, my band is playing a show at the bike church (@ 8) and I've been spending a lot of time listening to this band: PAGE FRANCE.

So here's the deal. They are from Maryland, and they rule. They are generally coined a folk/pop-folk band. Anywho, this wonderful five piece found its way quickly into my heart, and is kickin' it pretty hardcore there. All three linked songs are from there soon to be released CD "And The Family Telephone". SO drop it likes it's hot, and dome check your shit on this:

spent the morning in urgent care

hit 'n run last night. don't worry... don't worry... the bike's fine. i think... my right knee, not so much. i'm off my bike for a little while. it's one of those mornings that can only be helped by half a bottle of bare foot. here's three random blog-type subjects that have nothing in common with each other.

1. i always found the song rating system on itunes to be completely useless. a; because i'm not gonna sit and rate every song in my library. i guess i could just rate the songs i like... but that would contradict the purpose of rating my library to begin with and, b; who the fuck really cares enough to associate how much you enjoy a song to a scale of 1 to 5 stars? well, this app throws all your rating worries out the window, it automatically runs through your itunes library and rates all your songs by using a formula (rating = (100 * ( (play frequency - lower) / (upper - lower) ) - skips per month * 5), sounds neato. i'm not gonna lie, i've downloaded it like a week ago, but i haven't ran it yet. once again... for multiple reasons, a; because i just imagine it's gonna take a long ass time and hog vital memory i need for my ever so important torrents (currently; curb your enthusiam and futurma collections and a 4.7gb wu-tang discog), b; i imagine this rating system isn't very accurate and i'm gonna end up turning my neatly organized library into a pile of shit and c; i'm afraid some random hottie is gonna hop onto my computer bust open itunes and find out i gave freak'n out by graham coxon 5 stars.

2. i finally heard the first single off (thirty year old) aesop rock's next album none shall pass on definitive swim (def jux x adult swim) and i'm pretty excited, it drops on def jux august 28th. sounds super.
aesop rock - none shall pass

3. as many of you i'm a rather big arcade fire fan and i kind of have a thing for there live shows; especially their wide selection of covers. here's the latest; clinc's distortions

'i'm speaking to you from the future'

you can pick up the video for kanye west's first single; can't tell me nothing off his up and coming graduation full length dropping in september, as a free download on itunes. sounds as promising as every k.west production before hand, i'm sure it's gonna deliver.

in other kanye news, he just dropped his can't tell me nothing mixtape. which is fuck'n awesome. samples from daft punk, thom yorke, kid sister, peter bjorn & john, a-trak and the founding track of the new super group CRS (lupe fiasco, k. west and pharrell.) it's free (even though the download takes for-fucking-ever) cop it!

Soooo(cial) Last Year...

aside from a lot of things going on, your favorite, Broken Social Scene just released a new music video. And while it doesn't fit the norm of a dialogue free video of a band playing while looking super hip, they did have a lot of fun. So eat this and tell your friends about this video (and this blog?) because it is fucking rad.

ALSO!!!

I purpose a challenge. I don't know who reads this blog, or how many readers we have, but I want create the competition to make a mash-up for the two songs:
Da ya think I'm Sexy - Rod Stewart
&
Time Moves Slowly - Madonna

i want that to be a mash-up.

winner gets an awesome prize, because it would be a rad song and because I doubt anyone will do it.

sebastiEn

ex drummer/vocalist for the garage-pop band death from above 1979 of vice (owned by atlantic) records fame; sebastien grainger has been hard at work touring and writing songs for an unnamed solo release. after the split, his old bandmate jesse f. keeler has since teamed up with al-p to pump out track after track of soulless electronic disco anthems and remixes under the guise (and golden hockey mask) mstrkrft. it's good to see that even after the fame of dfa79 (which mainly involved declaring a... and i quote; "JIHAD ON THEM HOLY WAR ENDING IN THIER DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT" against james murphy and dfa records as a whole. gj guys!) they're are still passionate about music and continue to flood the internet with alternative pop music for college kids around the globe. like usual, i'm getting off track. sebastien has dropped a lot of good sounding songs so far, the two i'm going to post he has claimed sound nothing like other tracks he's working on and that they don't reflect the direction he's taking his solo work in, but whatever, they're good.

new t.i. single

here's the video for big things poppin' the first single from my personally most anticipated rap album of the year; t.i.'s t.i. vs. tip (drops on grand hustle july 3rd). this track definitely doesn't sound as much like a mega-pop hit as what you know or rubber band man; but hardly not a decent track. it actually leaves a kind of large amount of mystery around his new full length, as to what kind of battle is going on between tip (cocky bro-type) and t.i. (seems more like his character in atl) and hopefully it's a little more interesting then a push up contest...

more summer club tracks

as all my readers are aware; i'm a (o.g.) fan of the paris based dj/electro producing duo justice. 2007 has been a pretty crazy year for them and all of their ed banger label mates (it's appalling to me surkin hasn't recieved the proper praises for his japanese release action replay, i would consider him to be one of the most talented members of the ed rec crew.) after being named xlr8r's best artist of 06 and fighting off the label of 'the new daft punk' (while producing under daft punk's manager's record label) they seem to be taking it all in stride. i've been listening to their first full length release ; i'm really happy with it actually, (only 5 of 12 tracks are recycled; waters, let there be light, one minute to midnight, phantom, d.a.n.c.e.) and i guess it is rather justified, this being a summary of their work over the past year or so. the whole album is solid, uffie is feature on the party that has a wicked three 6 mafia sample and is party anthem that gets stuck in your head. the opening track genesis sets the mood for the album perfectly, deep dirty disco bass. dvno probably the catchiest new track on the album, after 2 listens the vocals were on repeat in my head for the rest of the night (linked it a few posts down.) definitely worth hearing, drops in the states june 10th.

justice - phantom pt. II

Super villians...

In relation to the Never Ending Story playing as the midnight movie this week at the Del Mar Theater, I thought I would compile the 5 most villainous characters...ever.
5) The Monarch (Venture Brothers): While I could think of a million more villains who are more villainous then he, I just felt the Monarch should be on a list of mine. What great henchman.
4) Lord Voldemort (Harry Potter): Avada Kadavra!
3) Darth Vader (Star Wars): do I even need to explain.
2) Apocalypse (X-Men): He once took over the world after going back in time and having Professor-X killed before he could open the school take advantage of the misguided mutants in the Age Of Apocalypse!

1) THE NOTHING (Never Ending Story): what is more sad then nothing, destroying your world. damn.

so I don't care if you agree of disagree with my list or not, heck I'm not even sure if I agree with it. Feel free to leave suggestions. I probably won't take them to heart.

But aside from bad ass villainy, one of my favorite bands I've been following for awhile now has a new album out. The band: Greenlandic Blaque, the album: Black Bears, & Children. I used to blog about them all the time on Phantom Polaroid, so some might be familiar, but man this new album is amazing. You can definitely notice a difference from their previous stuff, but amazing at that. I will post a few songs with the hopefulness that you will go and buy the rest of the cd. So drop your dome piece to this.

This is the brand spankin' new music video for Yacht for the song "See A Penny (Pick It Up)" and RADICALLY AWESOME it is. So bring this to the dome.

Zach Condon > God

So, by now everyone should know the name and his preternatural ability to make great music. That or Beirut or The Real People...or you just fail at life. This is a video I saw when SXSW first ended, told dean about it, and then the link was gone the next day. BUT I FOUND IT!

on a side note, and being that while I am sick I am spending so much of my time on youtube and antville I managed to find this brand new music video for Fujiya & Miyagi for the song 'Collarbone". Also, the hood internet had a mash-up of Fujiya & Miyagi with T.I.

grabbed simian mobile disco's new album attack decay sustain release, drops june 28th on wichita (preorder.) safe to say, many of the tracks will be popping up like crazy in clubs and mixtapes all summer. i normally have a problem with recycled tracks but the four tracks released on singles beforehand (it's the beat, tits & acid, i believe and hustler) all sound refreshing and fit in the album well. there are quite a few outstanding new tracks as well, the album opener sleep deprivation is the closest this album has to a dramatic, almost eerie trance track... in a good sense. so far i think love is my favorite track... simple hand claps and a funky bassline.

free comic book day

head down to your local comic book shop and grab a free comic (i know atlantis is doing it.) been listening to diplo's fabriclive 24 a little too much recently. the man can do it all; he's a mixtape dj who pumps out some serious mash ups on the side, all his remixes are the fresh maker and backs it all up with a solid instrumental hip-hop album. here's a wide variety of he has to offer.

diplo - annie mac mix
diplo - shake it over and over (pitbull v. hot chip)
diplo - young folks pussy (tapp v. peter bjorn & john)
the pack - vans (diplo's 'til infinity remix)

I throw pennies away (as in on the ground and in the trash)

For a dog to do this is ridiculous. For a dog to do this while listening to Sex In The Break From...very possible, which is why I am bringing you a new remix to a song that Derek once posted on Dodge Attack: Simian Mobile Disco's song "Its the beat" done by Luke Vibert. So holla.

Architecture in OH MY GOD...

In late July/early August ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI will be dropping a their new album 'Places Like This', the following video is their first single off the new CD "Heart It Races", and while I am still collecting my feelings on the new song I thought I would give you their new video. While of course I searched and searched for a leak of the new CD nothing has prevailed and I thought this would be good enough to hold you over.

Sub-zero would kill you...

Last night I sat down and watched a martial arts film called MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE, and it was by far the best martial arts film. maybe ever. I am under the impression that the creators of Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter got all their good ideas from this movie. So put it in your que on nextflix or what ever it is you use.

But on a different note, also last night, I had the privilege of hanging out with a friend of mine that goes by the name of Katie Mourning. She is in a band, HARDY HARR. And all in all, they are a really good, cute, and fun band. Now I know a few of you are thinking "wait a tic, didn't he post about them on phantom polaroid?", and yes I did. But the links didn't work...and they are coming out with a new cd at the end of this month. So get excited about them now so you can be more excited for the end of this month.
